National Infertility Awareness Week is a time to raise awareness about infertility, a medical condition that affects millions of people around the world. This year, National Infertility Awareness Week is observed from April 24 to April 30, 2023.
What is Infertility and Who Does It Affect?
Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive a child after trying for at least a year. Infertility affects both men and women, and it can be caused by a variety of factors, such as age, genetics, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 10% of women in the United States have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant. Additionally, about one-third of infertility cases are caused by female factors, one-third are caused by male factors, and one-third are caused by a combination of male and female factors.
You and Your Partner Are Not Alone
Infertility can be a difficult and emotional journey for women and their partners. Women may feel a sense of loss, shame, or guilt for their inability to conceive, while their partners may feel a sense of helplessness or inadequacy. Additionally, infertility treatments can be expensive, physically demanding, and emotionally draining, adding further stress to an already difficult situation.
